The Venue

Why did you choose this location for your wedding?  We loved the idea of our closest friends and family having the opportunity to go on a tropical vacation, with our wedding as an added bonus event. We decided on Olowalu Plantation House for the location of our ceremony and reception site unseen! A family friend’s daughter got married there a few years before and had nothing but wonderful things to say about it. When we found out it was in our price range, we put the deposit down right away- and I am so glad we did.

The Ceremony

Your ceremony in three words.  Non-traditional, playful, quick.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony?  We loved everything about it. I still cannot get over how beautiful the setting was. The weather, the ocean in the background, the greenery, and the smell of the tropical flowers – it was so special being able to get married in such a beautiful location with most of our closest friends and family there. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful setting.

The Reception

“Our reception was beautiful, fun, with great music! The sunset was perfect and the lighting at night was magical. It didn’t feel like real life.”

The Cake

What type of cake or dessert did you serve?  We had a 3-tiered wedding cake. Two tiers were white chocolate cake with guava filling and vanilla buttercream. The middle tier was tiramisu with white chocolate ganache.

The First Dance

What special songs did you dance to?  Our first dance song was A Wink and a Smile by Harry Connick, Jr. I used to stand on my dad’s toes while we danced to Paul Simon, so we danced to Graceland at the wedding. Julian’s family is French and we wanted to incorporate a little piece of their culture in by dancing to a French song, so he and his mom danced to Je vole by Louane.

Advice from the Bride & Groom

What was the best advice you received as a bride?  Enjoy every moment of your special day because it goes by quickly. Don’t get bogged down by the details and don’t get annoyed at those trying to help- because they are only trying to help!

What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding?  Try to relax and enjoy the process. Hopefully it will only happen once – so try to savor the moments and make them fun.

If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently?  I felt like everything was so perfect. I guess if I could do something differently I would consider doing more dancing lessons. Our first dance was not a masterpiece; rather it was playful and a fun disaster.
